below are samples from 40 photographs that I printed onto various diabetic medical supply boxes, then strung from the cieling using fishing line, throughout the gallery at the Care Before Profit installation. here you can view the digitized print along with the boxes onto which they were printed, creating a similar visual impact as they did inside the gallery.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

[…] Those, like myself, whose lives are dependent on medical technology, are forced into the losing end of a consumer-producer relationship wherein the only way to survive—to literally stay alive—is to constantly pay the devastatingly high price of so-called-healthcare. Even those with health insurance pay high prices, often to the end of rationing insulin and supplies to a catastrophic effect: diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), coma, or death. The test strip signs are representative of the greater problem of runaway profiteering while patients continue to suffer. Read more

(20 ml of insulin is the equivalent of 2 vials, and the amount of insulin thst I need to stay alive for 30 days. two vials of insulin has a list price of $660*
